MEXICO: HOUSES OF THE PACIFIC Invites the reader to travel Mexico's Pacific Coast, from Baja California Sur to Oaxaca, to feel the sense of a new coastal architecture—an open architecture without doors or windows, one that allows us to live closer to nature, that prodigal source of inspiration for architects like Marco Aldaco, Carlos Herrera, Ricardo Legorreta, Manolo Mestre, Javier Sordo, Diego Villasenor and José de Yturbe. Emphasizing the influence of vernacular architecture and local building materials, Marie-Pierre Colle calls this new style-in which the palapa (a thatched-roof shelter) has become the central element—the "new palapa." She briefly recounts for us the fortunate coincidence that brought Gloria Guinness and Marco Aldaco together to launch the new style in Acapulco around 1970.

He opens the doors to more than 35 houses, illustrating the values of this innovative architectural trend.
