study Notes in System Dynamics collects supplementary material for teaching or independent study in system dynamics. It focuses on the generic feedback structures common to most complex systems and provides broad exposure to system dynamics applications. Study Notes facilitates independent study or teaching when read in conjunction with Jay W. Forrester's Principles of Systems (Cambridge, Mass.: Wright-Allen Press, 1968) or Industrial Dynamics (Cambridge, Mass.: MIT Press, 1961).
Part One of the three-part book focuses on simple structures and describes ele--ments of positive negative, and combined positive and negative feedback loops. Part Two reinforces the Part One material with eight exercises emphasizing the relationship between structure and behavior. Part Three contains advanced exercises on the life cycle of a residential community, the propagation of a yellow-fever epidemic, and the growth and decline of deer on the Kaibab Plateau. Managerial Application's of System Dynamics _
edited by Edward B.'Roberts]
The immense value of this book is th§ void it fills—it is the first major work to appear, dealing with managerial applications of systems dynamics, since Forrester's original publication of Industrial Dynamics. It is relatively self-contained, well edited and provocative. Whether your flair is management, management science, management cybernetics, modeling, planning, or forecasting, you will find a collection of articles in this volume that will certainly whet your appetite. This book merits a place In your library; Its appearance should enable graduate schools of business to effectively integrate systems dynamics Into their curricula."—Techno/og/-cal Forecasting and Social Change
Corporate Planning and Policy Design
A System Dynamics Approach by James M. Lyneis
"This author has done an extraordinarily good job of using system dynamics as a vehicle to develop an understanding of how corporate systems work (or fail to work). . . .
"This text fits nicely Into the existing books available in system dynamics. Study Notes in System Dynamics by Michael R. Goodman, an excellent text for model construction purposes, and Managerial Applications of System Dynamics by Edward B. Roberts."—Peter C. Gardiner, Assistant Professor of Systems Management, Institute of Safety and Systems Management, University of Southern California.
