ISPAC - The International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council of
the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme has
been established in 1991. Its Secretariat is located in Milan at the Centro
Nazionale di Privenzione e Difesa Sociale. The tasks of the Council were
defined as 'channelling to the United Nations professional and scientific
input and creating a capacity for the transfer of knowledge and exchange of
information in crime prevention and criminal justice drawing on the
contributions of non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and
other relevant entities, so as to assist the United Nations in programme
formulation and implementation in this field.' Dr. Adolfo Beria di Argentine
is the president of ISPAC's Executive Board. Prof. E.U. Savona is his
Scientific Advisor. Prof. A.P Schmid is one of the eleven elected members of
the Executive Board which represents different organizations, disciplines and
