X he wonderful world of minerals is becoming popular in Hungary, too, at last, and, defying the hostile economic conditions, mineral collecting is making rapid strides. A sign of this is that since the early seventies, the king of all hobbies, numismatics, has had found a rival in the amateur mineral collectors growing up under the protection of the science of mineralogy, and in the small, but extremely capable community of mineral collectors. One of the unquestionable manifestations of this development is the activity of the many new clubs for mineral collectors, and also that of the mineral "markets" held regularly in several Hungarian cities, which are often of international significance. Using the terminology of nature lovers: after the first and the second "realms" (fauna and flora) of Nature, now, thanks to this book, the third one is also revealing itself.
With this volume, written by two eminent Hungarian mineralogists, our company would like to help and encourage the above-mentioned amateur activity. Our purpose is also to delight the readers with the 71 colour plates, as well as with the presentation of certain "delicacies"-minerals that are not common in Hungary. We hope that they are going to yield to the temptation of so much beauty, and turn to the "third
realm of Nature". Vissza
