Although SLOVAKIA is not big, there are many varied beauties and shapes. The task which Miro Gregor (1931), an art photographer, undertook was not easy- to elucidate what Slovaks find unique about Slovakia and what might be interesting for foreigners. Using photography as his spe-cific means of expression, the author of this noteworthy publication shares what he finds to be features typical of Slovakia and in addition, those which are photographically attractive and useful in communicating his account of the country, its people and their history, its natural beauties and artistic and historical monuments as well as modern archi-tecture. This book presents the author's personal statement of his love for his mother-country, his attempt to make his readers apreciate his views, so that Gregor's Slovakia beco-mes that of everybody who became fond of this country. Miro Gregor conquered this country as a „king" capturing it in his camera lens so that one day he could share his wealth with his readers.
This new, revised, updated edition is bigger and nearly a third of the graphic material consists of new, more lifeli-ke photos, that make the visual composition of Slovakia even more impressive. Gregor's introductory comments, his poetic entrees into the particular thematic chapters, expanded captions as well as the clean and artful graphic layout emphasize the value of the photographic view and help realise the author's intention to introduce Slovakia, extending from the High Tatras to the Danube, as a territo-ry and a nation that deserves much wider attention outside Central Europe.
