Modern pentathlon is a highly complex sport, placing on the competitor demands so exceptional, that only the really complete man is able to meet them. A comprehensive book on the subject has been long overdue. This book by Frigyes Hegedűs is intended to fill the gap for reader, pentathlete and expert alike.
The author is one of the engineers of Hungary's many successes in modern pentathlon, former team manager of the Hungarian squad that have won several Olympic and World Championship titles. Following a description of the history of ancient pentathlon, the book discusses the development, spread and importance of modern pentathlon. The second chapter considers the question of what this sport offers in mental and physical development, while the muscular, nervous and mental abilities required by the pentathlete are discussed in the third chapter.
