Reinhold Niebuhr
After receiving his B.D. and M.A. degrees from Yale Divinity School in 1914 and 1915, respectively. Dr. Niebuhr served as a pastor in Detroit for thirteen years. In 1928 he joined the faculty of Union Theological Seminary, New York, as professor of Christian ethics, where he remained until his retirement in 1960. Dr. Niebuhr was awarded honorary degrees from Oxford, Glasgow University, Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and a host of other colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. In 1939 he became the fifth American to be invited to deliver the famous Gifford Lectures at Edinburgh University. Dr. Niebuhr was also a member of the Academy of Arts and Letters, and in 1964 he was given the Presidential Freedo*^ -----
