This is tftg autobiography of H. A. R. 'Kim' Philby, the spy who betrayed a generation and who was perhaps the most successful secret agent of all. Philby, born into the British ruling class, was recruited as a Soviet agent in 1933, while still an undergraduate. In 1940 he joined Britain's Secret Intelligence Service (Ml6) and by 1949 had become the top British Secret Service Officer in Washington, working in liaison with the CIA and FBI. It was the height of the Cold War. Friends predicted that one day he would become Head of SIS itself.
In 1951 he managed to survive the suspicions of a few colleagues during the major defection to Moscow of Burgess and Maclean. It was not until 1963 that he himself made the same Eastern journey.
The scandal of Philby rocked the British and American Intelligence communities to the core; echoes of the explosions can still be heard in the corridors of anonymous, well-protected buildings in London and around Washington.

It was only in 1967 that Philby broke his silence and told why—and how—he did what he had done.
'Addictive highly polished frank written with style and a feline sense of irony making it a much better read than any of the other Philby literature'
