I-SPY LONDON
London is one of the greatest cities in the world. Its long history and endless variety make it a fascinating city to explore. It is too old, too large for anyone to know it all but, with l-Spy London, you can get to know it very well - and go on to discover more things for yourself. Do you know the house where Charlie Chaplin lived as a boy? Did you know that Marble Arch marks the site of Tyburn? Find out with l-Spy London.
HOW TO USE l-SPY LONDON
Use the maps in the front of the book to choose an area: yellow for the City, blue for Trafalgar Square and Parliament, and so on. Turn to that part of the book and select a walk. You can decide whether to explore the whole area - or just two pages at a time. • Means it is the start of a walk. Sometimes a walk brings you back to your starting point but there is always an Underground station nearby. If you see * at the bottom of a page, it means that you can continue the walk over the page; ¦ means it is the end of that... Tovább

If you see * at the bottom of a page, it means that you can continue the walk over the page; ¦ means it is the end of that walk. Use the maps to help you plan each walk - and to show you where you are while you are exploring. If something is starred on the map, it is particularly interesting. If there is something you want to see but you're not sure where it is, use the index at the back. Don't forget to tick off the sights Z as you see them. More than 300 ticks and you can send off for a badge (see back page) proving you are a real Londoner.
GETTING ABOUT
The only way to explore London is on foot. But to prevent you get-ting lost, all the walks in Central London start and finish near an Underground station.
The Underground alsó means you can move about London easily for variety, perhaps seeing the East End in the morning and Buckingham Palace in the afternoon. Buses are interesting, too, and, of course, the launches on the Thames and Regent's Canal. For Outer London, trains are usually best. There are special-price tickets combining rail, bus, and underground. For information on Underground and Buses, telephone 0171 2221234; Trains 0345 484 950.
Underground is best for visitors who soon come to treat it like a reliable friend. Londoners certainly do - it kept more than 180,000 of them safe during one night of the Blitz in 1940! Ask for a free Underground map when you buy your ticket, and use it as a bookmark. London's main Tourist Information Centres are at Victoria Station and at 1 Regent Street.
Rememben
• Children should always be accompanied by an aduit, never alone.
• Take care crossing the road, London is a busy city.
• Do not try to see too much in one day - you will enjoy it more if you take it easily. Vissza
