PÉTER KORNISS
Born in Kolozsvár (Gluj), Transylvania, on August
4,1937 Péter Korniss has lived in Budapest since
1949. He was on the editorial staff of Nők Lapja
(Women's Magazine) between 1961 and 1991. He
has been the photo editor of Színház (Theater)
magazine since 1991.
A documentary photographer, he devoted three
decades to recording for posterity the vanishing
peasant lifestyle and culture, primarily in
Transylvania. The books Heaven's Bridegroom
and Passing Times were the result of this work.
He followed the life of migratory workers for 10
years and subsequendy compiled The Guest
Worker.
He has exhibited in galleries and museums in 13

PÉTER KORNISS

Ensemble (1975), Passing Times (1979), The
Land of Red Cloud (1982), The Land of Ancient
Caravan Paths (1985), Amsterdam (1987), The
Guest Worker (1988), The International Folklore
Dance Theater (1991, The Netherlands) and
