This book, perhaps the most popular work on Australian natural history ever issued, has been thoroughly revised and considerably enlarged for the present edition. All the colour blocks have been made anew, and an additional plate has been included in order to present most of the birds introduced to Australia from other countries. Another innovation is a list of the relevant birds facing each plate. New photographic illustrations and a new Map of Localities also are included.
Three leading ornithologists—A. H. Chisholm, K. A. Hindwood, and A. R. McGill—have revised the text in the light of modern knowledge, and in this work they have been supported by bird students in various States and by the Gould League of Bird Lovers, the remarkable organization which serves as sponsor of the book.
