The NEW MASSES "was the magaziné of the period," writes Maxwell Geismar ín his introduction to this anthology of the Rebel Thirties. Joseph No.ih, a founder and chief editor of the weekly magaziné, has chosen this important selection of poetry, reportage, stories, criticisms and columns, as well as drawings and cartoons. Most of the leading writers and artists of that decade were published in its pages: Ernest Hemingway, Richárd Wright, Thomas Wolfe, Dorothy Parker, James Agee, Maxwell Bodenheím, Garcia Lorca translated by Langston Hughes, Michael Gold, Theodore Dreiser, Romáin Rolland, Kenneth Fearing, Henri Barbusse, William Saroyan, Kenneth Patchen, Róbert Forsythe and Erskine Caldwell-are among those appearing in this selection from the NEW MASSES, which, says Maxwell Geismar, was "one of the most brilliant journalistíc enterprises in our literary history."
