The Advanced Social and Political Research Institute (ASPRI) was established in 2004 at the University of Latvia to facilitate high quality research on social development and foreign policy issues and to promote cooperation among Latvian social scientists and their participation in international research netw/orks. ASPRI draws not only on the expertise of academic staff and graduate students at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia, but also on a network of scholars from other Latvian universities. The primary areas of research are 1) democracy, social integration and minorities; 2) regional and human development in Latvia; 3) media, information and culture; and 4) Latvia in international affairs, particularly relations with Russia and new European neighbours.
