This innovative counting book will take a child all the way from one watermelon seed, planted in an empty spring garden, to thousands of puffs of popcorn popped on a winter night. Pictures and simple words describe the work and fun of two children as they make a garden and then harvest the vegetables and fruit they have grown. The beautiful illustrations by Karen Patkau offer plenty of opportunity for counting— from 1 to 10 as the garden is planted and from 10 to 100 as the harvest is gathered.
CELIA BARKER LOTTRIDGE has been involved with children and children's books most of her life as a children's librarian, teacher, and storyteller. She has been associated with The Children's Bookstore, Toronto, for several years. She is the author of The Juggler (1985).
