Fülszöveg

This new, substantially revised edition of a popular student text aims to provide an integrated treatment of static and dynamic optimization that relates the mathematics to the economics from the outset. The basic theory is introduced with a very intuitive 'arbitrage' approach, and developed using only elementary linear algebra and calculus. The concepts of shadow prices, envelope functions, and duality are emphasized and related to their economic significance throughout. Mathematical proofs stress the underlying economic intuition. Each chapter includes several fully worked examples and exercises that apply the theory to topics in consumer and producer behaviour, economic equilibrium, and planning.
This revised edition includes a new chapter on uncertainty, with applications to portfolio selection and the economics of information, and a fuller treatment of dynamic programming, with applications to search theory.
The book is aimed at second and third year undergraduates taking... Tovább

The book is aimed at second and third year undergraduates taking microeconomics courses with some quantitative content. It should also provide a simpler alternative to many postgraduate texts.
