He has expressed his views forcibly in this book and has given many examples, not only from Sweden, but from the European and American book trade generally, to illustrate his arguments.
Mr. Gedin describes the progress of the book trade in modern times, relating it to the prosperity and decline of bourgeois society and culture. He connects the trade's boom periods and also its crises to the forces of social change. The result is an entirely new look at the current situation, particularly on the field of fiction, and much light is shed on the fortunes and misfortunes of some very famous publishing names.
