Peter Rüting
Peter Rüting was born in Amsterdam on 5th November 1938. There he studied at the Institute for Arts and Crafts (now^ an academy), and after his graduation in i960, he worked as a free lance photographer. In 1968 he branched out and opened a studio. All sorts of people found their way to him, bringing in a wide range of commissions. Advertising agencies, companies, architectural firms, and other organisations called on him to photograph projects of increasing scale. Amongst the largest commissions were campaigns for the dairy industry, breweries and banks.
In the meantime, Peter Rüting felt a growing need to spend time on his own work. In the course of the seventies he cut back his commercial commitments and concentrated more and more on his personal work. Today, he still takes on commissions, though less so than in the past, producing photography for annual reports, calenders and brochures.

Around 1980 the balance shifted markedly in favour of the exploration of his own photography. Although the groundwork had been ready for some time, the process was slow to reahse. In 1983 Peter Rüting made his debut with the results of his photographic explorations in the Canon Photo Gallery in Amsterdam.
