Peter Strevens is a graduate of University College, London, where he did postgraduate research in phonetics under Professor Daniel Jones. He has been Head of the Department of Phonetics at the University of Ghana, a member of the staff of the School of Applied Linguistics at Edinburgh University, Professor of Contemporary English at Leeds University, and is currently Professor of AppI led Linguistics and Director of the Language Centre at the University of Essex.
