Alaska's abundance-its size, its variety, and its grandeur-inspires even the most seasoned traveler with awe. Misty fjords and nameless mountains, calving glaciers and berry-laden tundra: the Forty-ninth State rightfully derives its name ^from the Aleut word Alashka, meaning "Great Land."
, Nancy Simmerman, photographer of ALASKA II and SOUTHEAST COAST has taken thousands of photographs in Alaska since statehood. Her artistic eye, her closeness to the land and people, and her mastery of her profession have resulted in a sensitive and powerful exhibit.
Fred Hirschmann's images have not only appeared in national and international magazines but have also been published in five books, including the outstanding BUSH PILOTS OF ALASKA and ALASKA'S NATIONAL PARKS.
