In June 1986 an unusual safari set out from Nairobi. Unusual in the sense that instead of staying and travelling together, sixty seven photographers were grouped in individual teams, each briefed with a separate theme — to record the essence that is Kenya.
Brought together by the National Institute for Exploration they had travelled from the United States of America to Africa to record on film the people, the wildlife, the culture of this unique continent.
Some did it the hard way, a tough slog in the semi-arid north; some in style, staying at comfortable lodges, while others spent much of their time beneath the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean. All lived their adventure to the full, capturing the excitement, variety, grandeur cind sheer pleasure of the Kenya safari experience.
