THE OXFORD SPELLING DICTIONARY COMPILED BY R. E. ALLEN
The Oxford Spelling Dictionary includes all those English words in everyday use whose spelling or grammatical forms can give rise to difficulty. Its word-list is based on the vocabulary of The Concise Oxford Dictionary, expanded to include difficult proper names (such as Gadaffi, Gorbachov; and Reykjavik), problematic apostrophes (such as Achilles' heel, April Fool's Day, and
Finnegans Wake), and commonly misspelt inflected forms (occurring, benefited, and scenarios, for example).
Unlike many other spelling dictionaries, it takes care to distinguish confusable words (such as complement and compliment), and deals extensively with the spelling and hyphenation of compounds (such as airbus, air-cushion, and air hostess). It also offers word-by-word guidance on hyphenation and word-division.
This information is not readily available elsewhere in so convenient a form and will eliminate the need to thumb... Tovább
