Spontaneous as well as symptomatic dyskinesias constitute a group of motor dysfunctions, that rangé from merely botter-some to completely disabling. In their minor forms they go too often unrecognized or undervalued by the physician. Yet they are signs of a most intricate and fascinating derangement in the underlying neuro anatomical and neurophysiological mátrix. For those interested in those "degenerative" disorders, that are characterized by involuntary movements, and in drug-induced dyskinesias, thisissueoftheScientificSandozSeriesisparticularly devoted to Huntington's disease and its differential diagnosis. These disorders are approached from a neurophysiological, phar macological and anatomical point of view and were subjects of discussion in the Boerhaave Course and Workshop on Dyskinesia held in Leiden, The Netherlands, October 6th and 7th, and Octo ber 8th, 1983 respectively.
