RAINBOW 2000 is a complete pre-primary and primary course suitable for young learners of English in multi-cultural environments. Each level consists of the following: - Pupil's Book in full coiour containing clearly laid out presentations of new language. There is alsó a glossary of new lexis at the end of the book. - Workbook allowing pupils to gain a wealth of further practice in language presented in the Pupil's Book. The emphasis is on providing a variety of activities from colouring and songs at the early levels to problem-solving later in the course. -Teacher's Book giving straightforward steps on howto deal with the lessons in each unit, coordinating work from both the Pupil's Book and the Workbook. These are available only for the Preliminary level, levels 1 and 2 and levels 3 and 4. Syllabus The RAINBOW 2000 course is based on a carefully-graded structural and lexical syllabus which is set in contexts which will be relevant and at the same time challenging to young learners in different countries and from different cultures. The early levels focus on building vocabulary and the oral/aural skills, as weil as somé written reinforcement. In the later levels, more balanced practice is provided in all four skills. By the end of the course the learner will be weil prepared to start a teenagers' intermediate course such as those generally found in the first year of preparatory schools. Methodology/Content RAINBOW 2000 adopts the approach of learning by doing while alsó focusing on: - a concern for recycling language from earlier units to aid retention of learning; - the fun element for a positive reinforcement of the material; - the integration of other school subjects in the course content such as geography, maths and science; - material and activities which are appropriate for schools in different countries and cultural environments and do not run counter to local customs and conditions.
