The Book Indián Wildlife is the long-awaited definitive book on India's varied and fascinating fauna. It not only gives a detailed account of India's forest resources but alsó deals at length with the problems of wildlife conservation. Never before has Indián wildlife been dealt with so exhaustively and authoritatively in any book on the subject. The faunal species described here outnumber those in any hitherto-published book on wildlife. The magnitude of the task and the vastitude of the canvas are awesome. Ramesh Bedi's illuminating observations have been complemented by Rajesh Bedi's superb photographs. The jungle and its denizens have always cast a spell on both the author and the photographer-the father and the son-who have spent their best years in the formidable forests, hazardous valleys and snow-capped slopes. The author's love of nature and his firsthand knowledge of the subject have enriched the book which is at the same time scholarly and engrossing. A lioness and her... Tovább

A lioness and her cubs in the Gir Forest lay by Ramesh Bedi as he was absorbed in writing his field notes. Narrow escapes from tuskers and bears were not uncommon. There were moments of anxiety too-Rajesh was stung by a deadly scorpion in Corbett National Park, with the nearest dispensary 50 kilometres away; the Bedis stood transfixed, watching the hair-raising activities of the Chambal dacoits. The result is a book that is at once authoritative and spell-binding, informative and anecdotal. The book has been embellished with charming photographs handpicked from several thousand, each distinctively different: the hatching of a king cobra, the mating of the Indián rhino, a camel's combat with lions, the birth of a baby gharial in the deathly Chambal valleys. Indián Wildlife gives a vivid and absorbing account of the lifestyle and behavioral pattern of a variety of animals that roam the country's national parks, sanctuaries and preserves. The author strongly advocates the need for the protection of these animals that are constantly struggling for survival. Vissza
