HOSPITAL COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND PROCEDURES-ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS Volume I is the first volume in a two-book series from Petrocelli/Charter. The series is designed to provide the information needed to automate hospital functions. Volume I treats the automation of the hospital business office and accounting systems. Volume II viiill discuss two common medical applications, the clinical laboratory and electrocardiographic processing. In both volumes, stress is placed upon understanding the requirements and motivation of the manual systems being automated and upon the means of installing the computerized versions once they are programmed.
ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS presents a review of hospital systems and then discusses the patient accounting system, the patient accounting file structure, patient accounting implementation, admissions, payroll, supplies accounting, and the general ledger. Exercises and references follow each chapter.
The approach used in the book and throughout the series is that of the continuous case study —the same case is used to illustrate all topics in the text. This approach provides a coherent and connected base for understanding the applications and their interconnections. Also included are flowcharts, input/output formats, file structures, procedures, "how-to" suggestions; anything that may be helpful to the systems analyst in attacking the problems of hospital automation.
ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS may be used in a hospital computer systems course. It is also suitable as a reference in courses in hospital systems, health care systems, public health administration, and computer science courses for health care students. It will prove a valuable reference source for health professionals who face the challenge of automated health care systems.
