Born in New York City, educated at City College and Columbia University, Seymour Martin Lipset has been a professor of Sociology and Government at Harvard University since 1965. Prior to that he taught Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley, where he witnessed the celebrated Berkeley Revolt of 1 964 - 1 965, and served as the faculty advisor of the Young People's Socialist League.
