REGIONAL MONITORING OF CHILD AND FAMILYWELL-BEING: UNICEF'S MONEE PROJECT
UNICEF's "Public Policies and Social Conditions: Monitoring the Transition in Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States", known as the MONEE project, has been gathering and sharing data on the situation of children and women in countries undergoing rapid social and economic change since 1992.
The project, through a series of reports on child and family well-being, has had a remarkable impact on pohcy makers, academics, politicians and members of the public. One of the keys to its success has been the comprehensive set of demographic and social indicators and related policy and institutional information collected via a wide network of experts. This paper outhnes the goals, organization and methodology of the project and highlights its distinctive features, including a hoUstic and regional perspective based on a systematic mix of statistical and analytical investigations.
