Like Titian and Tintoretto, Rubens and Courbet, Auguste Renoir is one of the great celebrators of the glory of woman. Throughout his long life, he sought to represent the feminine ideal, in glowing portraits and figures whose rich sensuality seems to imbue the canvas with a warmth and softness, a freedom and abundance that is almost tangible.
