In a final section Professor Ridley discusses syndicalism in the wider political and ideological context of its time, taking into account the developments of the inter-war years. He examines the revolt against Reason and Democracy, showing links between the syndicalists and anti-bourgeois, anti-intellectual and anti-democratic movements, notably among the extreme right in France and in Mussolini's Italy. Two chapters are devoted to the ideas of Georges Sorel.
This study is a contribution to the history of the French Labour Movement, to socialist thought and to the more general study of political ideologies.
