River Pollution 2: Causes and Effects
by Louis Klein, MSc, PhD(Lond), FRIC, MInstSP
1962 reprinted 1969 470 pages illustrated 0 408 33595 5
This book is well written and well presented and a generous number of references permit any aspect to be studied further. This volume should be on the shelves of any person interested in water pollution together with the previous volume, River Pollution 1.' poyai Society of Health Journal
'Altogether this volume . . . represents a work which no one concerned in this field can afford to ignore.'
Proceedings of the Society for Water Treatment and Examination
The author presents a multidisciplinary approach to this vital subject which calls increasingly for such a range of expertise. Designed to complement the other two volumes in the series and is based firmly on the author's very extensive and varied experience in analyzing and controlling river pollution.
CONTENTS: Historical Introduction. Legal Aspects of River Pollution. Nature and...

River Pollution 3: Control
by Louis Klein, MSc, PhD(Lond), FRIC, MInstSP
1966 500 pages illustrated 0 408 33600 5
The very high standard set by the author in the first two volumes has been fully maintained in the third. The opening chapter on "Detection and Measurement of Pollution" is an excellent supplement to information on this subject in the first volume; the second is an admirable outline of the many aspects of pollution of coastal and tidal waters. The third and fourth chapters on the abatement of pollution will have the greatest general appeal, for, taken together, they give in a most readable form a concise and critical review of methods for the purification of sewage and trade wastes . . . The reviewer cannot speak too highly of this book and no one who is concerned in any way with the control of water pollution can afford to be without it-or the preceding two volumes.'

RIVER POLLUTION
l! ChemicBl Analysis
The excellent reception given to Dr. Klein's first book 'ASPECTS OF RIVER POLLUTION', and in particular to the two chapters reviewing methods of detecting and determining the various forms of pollution and discussing the interpretation of results, suggested that this section could well form the theme of a separate volume. The present book, therefore, gives a revised version of those chapters which will appeal to all those interested in chemical analysis as applied to river pollution problems, sewage and trade wastes.
Since most pollutions are of a chemical or physical nature, chemical analysis supplemented by physical and physico-chemical procedures must play a vital part in the detection and measurement of river pollution. It is the intention of this book to provide a chemical background for, and supplement to the information on analytical methods and in addition to review critically other methods which, though not officially recommended, may nevertheless be useful in certain circumstances for research, control work and field tests. There is an extensive bibliography containing nearly 600 references.
