The rose is a romantic flower indeed. Everyone cherishes a secret memory in which the rose plays a prominent part. Be it of a few pink buds surrounded by baby's breath in a posy for an early birthday; long-stemmed, bright red roses conveying a message of deep felt thanks or wishes for a speedy recovery; a lavish arrangement of fullblown blooms on a festive dinner table; or the rose that arrived to confirm love's sentiments.

To this celebration of the rose as the universal delight for our senses, Murray Alcosser brings an abundance of varieties photographed in the course of two decades in gardens and homes all over America. His unerring eye for the delicacy of the flower gives these pages a personal view of color, form, and beauty.
