"It is always fascinating to read how the super rich
spend their money but not always interesting to learn
how they get it. Ron Kessler, however, makes both
Mr. Khashoggi's getting and spending equally absorb-
ing. His book is clearly the best biography of a billion-
naire in years—vivid, penetrating, riveting. Only an
investigative reporter of Mr. Kessler's experience and
a writer of his skills could have produced such a
compelling portrait of the biggest spender to come
out of the Middle East since Croesus."
—Nicholas Gage, author of Eleni
"Ifs all here—the wives, the deals, the fabulous lifestyle
that runs to more than $120,000,000 a year. The book
is spectacular, a dazzling piece of investigative
reporting that punches through the wall of secrecy that
surrounds the truly rich."

H
He has made more money-and more quickly -
than anyone in history. And he spends it at a
dizzying clip of $330,000 a day, every day of the
year. He is Adnan Mohamed Khashoggi, a Saudi
Arabian middleman who started out with noth-
ing and in twenty-five years parlayed his con-
nections to the Saudi royal family and genius at
dealing with people into a fortune of colossal
proportions.
Khashoggi's American Express bill often ex-
ceeds $1 million. When he feels like having spa-
ghetti, he flies to Venice for dinner on one of his
three commercial-size airplanes.
One of his luxury yachts, the $70 million, 282-
foot Nabila, is considered the most opulent mod-
ern yacht afloat. Borrowed for the James Bond
movie Never Say Never Again, it has its own
discotheque, movie theater, swimming pool,
sauna, helipad for Khashoggi's helicopter, and
40-member crew.
His Paris duplex-one of twelve grand resi-
dences throughout the world-holds the great-
est works in his $30 million art collection. In
Kenya he has his own personal game ranch, a
pool for his pet crocodiles, and one of the most
magnificent mountain chalets on earth. His New
York home occupies two full floors in the Olympic
Tower. Its interior is so sumptuous House &
Garden devoted eighteen full-color pages to it.
With its breathtaking view of the Manhattan
skyline and Olympic-size swimming pool, it is
valued at $25 million. It is the most expensive
of Khashoggi's residences, but the sprawling
estate on five thousand rolling acres high on a
hill overlooking the sea in Marbella is the largest
and the most suited to Khashoggi's lavish enter-
taining-the fabulous parties attended by celeb-
rities like Cheryl Tiegs, Farrah Fawcett, Sammy
Davis, Jr., Christie Brinkley, Frank Sinatra, Brooke
Shields, Lee lacocca, and Roger Moore, not to
(Continued from front flap)
mention heads of state ranging from King Juan
Carlos of Spain to King Fahd of Saudi Arabia.
This remarkable book takes us inside Kha-
shoggi's world-as investigative reporter Ronald
Kessler reveals for the first time the full details
of his high-powered business deals in thirty-eight
countries; his prodigious real estate operations
that include the Triad Center in Salt Lake City, a
billion dollar development in Houston, as well as
Drojects the size of small countries in Gabon,
he People's Republic of China, and other Third
World nations; the sensational $2.5 billion di-
vorce suit by his stunningly beautiful wife Soraya;
his investigation by the SEC; the flamboyant jet-
set partying, complete with $2,000-a-night call
girls; and the crucial and often secret role he
plays in Middle East peace negotiations.
The result is a rare glimpse into a life of opu-
lence beyond most people's wildest imaginings
-a compelling closeup of a complex and driven
man who has explored the outer reaches of suc-
cess, power, and all that money can buy. Vissza
