Rundé
is unique — it is the only bird cliff in southern Norway. This makes these cliff breeding grounds particularly interesting — and particularly vulnerable. Interesting because their easy access means they can be used as an example to document the value to be conserved in these nesting cliffs, threatened because visitors to these breeding grounds may represent a threat to bird life. I realize that this book may lead to an increase in the number of visitors to Rundé, but throughout I try to make the reader aware of the dangers of disturbing the birds. If I succeed in increasing people's interest in sea-birds and help them to understand their precarious situation without making it even more precarious, my purpose will have been achieved. I hope that this book may supplement the impressions gained by those who actually visit Rundé themselves. That is why I show photographs of the sort of life that goes on behind the «Protected Area» signs.
