He competed in college track and cross-country, and later competed as a road racer. He is a veterán of over 600 races, including 32 marathons. A runner and writer for 20 years, Joe has been the editor of Track and Field News, of Runner's World, Running Magaziné, and is currently west coast editor of Runner's World and Running Commentary. He has authored numerous other books on running which have sales of over 300,000 copies.
