Edvin Nilsson, born 1928, joined the Swedish Forest Service at the age of twenty and in 1954 was appointed Inspector of the Pari River (Parlalven) District of Lapland. This area includes the great Sarek National Park, one of the few remaining bastions in Europe of untamed and unspoiled Nature. No one is more familiar than Edvin Nilsson with this wild territory and its prolific, shy, often dangerous, inhabitants. His remarkable gifts as an observer and his skill as a photographer make this record of Sarek absorbing reading for expert and layman alike. It describes, in his laconic diary-style text, a journey on foot through the 770 square miles of the Park and some of his dramatic encounters with its denizens. The Introduction is by Professor Bertil Haglund, with whom Edvin Nilsson cooperated in the preparation of a major survey of Sarek's carnivore. Vissza
