Michael Davitt was born in Cork City in 1950. While a student in University College Cork in 1970, he founded the poetry journal, Innti, which has been the major fórum and stimulus for the remarkable recent flowering of Irish language poetry. He has published two collections of poetry, Gleann ar Ghleann (Valley by Valleyj in 1982 and Bligeard Sráide (Street Bfagfctrd) in 1983. His own work blends the traditional richness of West Munster Irish with a fresh innovative use of language which allows his poems to address fully the realities of present day life, turning them in effect into a poetry of liberation for the Irish language itself and helping to give it its rightfiil place as a modern and vibrant médium. This first ever dual language edition of his work contains a selection from both his books plus many previously uncollected poems, and will serve to reveal the full extent of his achievement to an English language readership for the first time. life." - Prof. Seán Ó Tuama (Colm Cille Lecture) Alan Titley (The Bright Wave) Vissza
