NANCY HUSTON was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1953 and moved to New Hampshire when she was fifteen. As a student at Sarah Lawrence College, she went to Paris in 1973 for a year of study abroad and never moved back. She is the author of seven novels and numerous works of non-fiction that have been published in her native Canada and her adopted France, and she writes in both French and English. Her previous books have won the Prix Goncourt des Lycéen, the Prix du Livre-Inter, the Prix Elle (Quebec) and the Governor General's Award for Fiction in French. She lives in Paris with her husband, Tzvetan Todorov, a philosopher and writer originally from Bulgaria, and their two children.
