Stalinism

Unique insights are given in this book into the personality and actions of Stalin, the phenomenon of 'Stalinism', and its influence on Russian and world history.
As in Dr Urban's previous books, the picture is built up through extended discussions with people whose positions or fields of study enable them to provide information or interpretation unavailable elsewhere. They range from the man who was Stalin's secretary from 1923 to 1926 to statesmen and academics of world rank.
Dr Urban, who has been described as 'arguably the English-speaking world's best interviewer', has once again produced a volume of irreplaceable evidence on one of the important issues of our time.

The editor
G.R. Urban graduated from Budapest University in 1947 and obtained his Ph.D. at London University in 1956. He served with the British Broadcasting Corporation (1948-60) and was director of university broadcasting, Radio Free Europe (1960-65). As a senior research associate of the School of Politics and International Relations, University of Southern California, he founded the quarterly journal Studies in Comparative Communism. He was a Visiting Fellow at Indiana University (1975) and a Research Fellow at the Russian Research Center of Harvard University (1980). Currently, he is a consultant to Radio Free Europe. He is the author of The Nineteen Days (1957) and Kinesis and Stasis (1963) and has edited and contributed to Talking to Eastern Europe (1964), The Sino-Soviet Conflict (with Leopold Labedz, 1965), Can We Survive our Future? (with Michael Glenny, 1972), Toynhee on Toynhee (1974), Detente (1976), Hazards of Learning {\911), Eurocommunism (1978), and Communist Reformation (1979). Vissza
