Paul Watkins is twenty-nine years old. He is the soniof Welsli pafehis'and was educated at the Dragon School, Eton and Yale. His first novel. Night over Day over Night, was
set in Germany in 1944 and dealt with a sixteentyear-old boy's initiation into the SS and his baptism of fire in the Ardennes Battle of the Bulge. This book was nominated for the Booker Prize. His second novel,.Calm at Sunset, Calm at Dawn, was
based on several years that he spent working on a deep-sea fishing boat off the New England coast. This book won Britain's Encore Prize for the best second novel of the*^ year and is now being made into a film. In j the Blue Light of African Dreams, his third novel, was set in Morocco and Paris in 1926^^ and was based on the true story of two men who disappeared while trying to make the " first non-stop flight across the Atlantic.
