In May 1982, the Internationale Buchkunst-Ausstellung Iba '82 (International Book Art Exhibition) was inaugurated in Leipzig. Following an established tradition, book artists and publishing houses from all over the world participated with a wide range of different exhibits. Now as before, prizes and medals were awarded to books and posters meeting the high artistic and technical quality standards. The prize-holders were nominated by an international jury, which was presided, like in previous book art exhibitions, by Professor Dr. Albert Kapr. Irrespective of the prizes and medals awarded, the present documentation on iba '82 provides a selection of books which were noted for their interesting layout and excellent printing quality. Once more, five years after the previous International Book Art Exhibition held in 1977, they characterize the international state of book arts and the achievements and capacities of the various printing houses.
