This is the 38th edition of "Steam," a book by The Babcock Wilcox Company that details further advances in the production of steam and the utilization of fuels.
A significant change in this new edition is the increased coverage of nuclear steam generating equipment in recognition of the growing importance of nuclear fuels as a source of energy for the production of steam.
This edition also reflects the augmented emphasis on quality control, which has effected important improvements in product quality during the last twenty years concurrently with large increases in the capacity of individual steam generating units.
The first issue of "Steam" appeared in 1875, not long after a New Jersey engineer named Stephen Wilcox applied his knowledge of water circulation theory to perfecting a new boiler concept. In 1867, Wilcox formed a partnership with George H. Babcock and the present Babcock Wilcox Company succeeded it in 1881.

In the little more than a century since the partnership was formed, B W has grown from two men and one product into an organization of more than 36,000 men and women employed in facilities throughout the world. Its manufacturing activities range from nuclear products to specialty steels and refractories to automated machinery.
The company gratefully acknowledges the support, cooperation and loyalty of its patrons and employees, which have made possible its contributions in the field of steam generation. It expresses the hope that this volume may help to stimulate further advances in the art. Vissza
