D r steen eiler rasmussen was born in Copenhagen in 1898, is married, and has two daughters. He holds the Chair of Architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Denmark.
After his school education from 1904 to 1915, he entered the Architectural School of the Danish Academy in 1916 and followed this with practical work in an architect's office from 1918 to 1922. He won first prize in a Town Planning competition when he was twenty-one and was made a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Denmark at twenty-four. After a journey to the Far East in 1923 he became a tutor in Town Planning in 1924. In 1947, when he was in Britain, he was appointed Honorary Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts, and was elected an Honorary Corresponding Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
