The political cartoons skilfully avoid policies; they whip attitudes from the possible positions of the compass's needle, ./ust like his ancestor, Daumier, who used to draw all the members of the French Parliament with the same sooty china ink, our artist dances with the same step, on the left, on the ri^ht, on the centre and on the extremes, indifferent to the changes of the music (to the musical changes). /4s a general attitude, he is the citizen sitting in the air-balloon basket, watching from high up the way things are on the Sphere and murmuring, from time to time, by himself and on his own account: I like, I would...
