A sustained, almost obsessive debate of morál issues was by far the main concern of Ion Agárbiceanu, a priest both by calling and position, a man deeply involved in the state of things during his entire lifetime in Transylvania.
He came from and belonged to that remarkably productive social layer of teachers, village officials, doctors, priests, etc. which, especially in Transylvania, constituted the basis of the national movement for education and generál morál and intellectual improvement and progress of the long ignored and oppressed nation of Transylvanian Romanians. It was indeed mostly in Transylvania that this social stratum proved to be a valuable motor of emancipation, as it was here that the double yoke of oppression, the social-economic and ethnically based political one persisted and stayed operational until the Second World War.

Cálinescu). He proved highly tactful in accomplishing educational work, avoiding insipid preaching at the same time.
