The author spent two years at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, U.S.S.R., where he had the opportunity to work on some problems In the theory of superconductivity suggested to him by Professor N. Bogoliubov. During this period the author became familiar with the rfesearch of Bogoliubov and his students in these topics, and later, from 1963 to 1967, studied their work in the field of superfluidity.
In these pages Professor Galasiewicz presents the microscopic theory of superconductivity and superfluidity and deals with the problems which face theoretical physicists working in this field; special care has been taken to give an explicit derivation of the formulae.
