Raised outdoors on a ranch in Cariboo country, he spent years in various northern outposts working for the Department of Indian Affairs. With Survival in the Wilderness he has combined his background, his novelist's eye, and his recent experiences living year-round in a tipi (also pictured on the front of the book) outside Whitehorse in the Yukon, to write a classic guide to wilderness travelling and survival.
