Professor Fusayama's studies of carious dentin have attracted the interest and attention of dental researchers and practitioners throughout the world. Here, for the first time in the English language, he provides the complete scientific and clinical story of the development of the "Two Layers of Carious Dentin" principle. These studies have led to the development of a chemically bonding restorative resin having particular application in the treatment of carious lesions of the anterior teeth, and to the formulation of a caries-detecting liquid. The latter is a dye solution through the use of which one differentiated between the outer, dead, carious dentin and the inner carious or normal dentin that remains vital. Selective removal of the stained dentin provides the dentist with a means to make treatment, i.e., removal of non-vital carious dentinal lesions, painless.

Use of the newly developed resin practically eliminates the need for shaping restorative cavities with retention forms because the resin bonds chemically to the vital tooth structure. Similarly, cutting of dentin can be eliminated in those situations in which the caries detector fluid indicates the carious lesion to be limited to the enamel layer of the affected tooth.
Clinical studies in children and adults have demonstrated the validity of Prof. Fusayama's conclusions and his methods enjoy wide use in Japan and elsewhere.
Understanding the most recently developed facts of dental science is of utmost importance to each practicing dentist.
A good professional journal, therefore, is indispensable for continuing up-to-date study. "Quintessence International" provides everything the dentist desires: contemporary reports of new methods and devices, understandable descriptions of research results, criticism of low quality materials and outdated methods, tips for better practice administration, etc. Reports are prepared by distinguished clinicians and leading dental educators from around the world. Through the concentrated and precise form of its reports and its many illustrations (some of which are in color), "Quintessence International" has already won many friends in its short period of existence. Write to the publisher for details and sample copies. Vissza
