Carroll Pursell is the Adeline Barry Davee Distinguished Professor of History at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he alsó serves as Director of the Graduate Program in the History of Technology and Science. He took his doctorate from the University of California (Berkeley) and has taught at the University of California (Santa Barbara) and Lehigh University. Along with Melvin Kranzberg he is the editor of Technology in Western Civilization and is the author of scholarly articles on both the history of technology and the history of government science policy in the United States. He currently (1990) serves as Vice President of the International Committee for the History of Technology and President of the Society for the History of Technology.
