Ecas has been known for its extravagant floral panoramas since it was roamed by nomadic Indian tribes and European explorers. Each region of this diverse state has its own special wiidflowers that have adapted wonderfully to the exigencies of climate and soil.
Despite extensive grazing, the prairies of Central Texas in springtime nurture some of the most splendidly colored wiidflowers on earth. On the timberlands of East Texas, wiidflowers make their own concessions to the environment and paint splashes of magnificent color in the forests,
Hie coast, prairies, and chaparral of South Texas are alive with wiidflowers changing in corresponding relation to the soil that nourishes them. Spring comes late to the short-grass plains of North Texas, but when it does come the dearth of trees serves to emphasize the abundance of wiidflowers. And in WestTexas the desert blooms with surprising color and variet>^ while the mountains become an amazingly robust prairie of wiidflowers.
