Black locust {Robinia pseudoacacia L.) was the first forest tree species to be imported from North America to Europe {to France) in 1601.
Its rapid spread all over the world may be attributed to its adaptability to a wide range of conditions, favourable breeding properties, frequent and abundant seed production, excellent coppicing, high survival percentage of seedlings, fast growing and high yield, as weil as good mellification and not in the least, to the fact that it is damaged only by few diseases and insects.
In Hungary black locust is a most widespread species occupying 18% of the country's total forest area and providing 25% of the annual timber output of the country.
In this work a system-oriented approach to black locust growing has been elaborated, striving not only for maximal management profits but for the realization of long-term growing objectives as well.
